Aberfeldy - A Wonderful Setting In Perthshire
Located in the Perthshire Highlands, Aberfeldy is a small Scottish town surrounded by a beautiful region that includes the county’s highest mountain, longest glen, and deepest loch. Though its population is small at only 2,000 people, during the summer month the town swells with visitors who come to make use of the areas excellent outdoor activities and explore the surrounding nature.
The locals are known for their warm friendliness. This can be experienced in the many guest houses, hotels, cafes, and bars that are dotted throughout the town. If you enjoy a slow relaxed pace of life then Aberfeldy will be very attractive to you. Nobody rushes around, people have time to stop and chat. A stay of any length will allow you time to explore the many pretty villages that surround Aberfeldy. It is almost as if stepping back in time.
It is believed that Aberfeldy was given its name during the eighteenth century in relation to the mouth of the Pheallaich Burn. Today it is perhaps most well known for being mentioned in a poem by Robert Burns - ‘The Birks of Aberfeldy’. Interestingly Aberfeldy actually has no Birch or Birk trees!
If you have time then you should include a visit to the Falls of Moness. These are often described as the most accessible, yet spectacular, waterfalls in all of Perthshire. Their beauty is enhanced by the steeply wooded glen that frames them. The walk has two parts; both are well maintained and accessible at any time of year.
